Mission Statement

Mission Statement:
The Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups, Inc. (AASWG), An International Professional Organization, is a not-for-profit organization of group workers, group work educators, and friends of group work who support its program of advocacy and action for professional practice, education, research, training and writing about social work with groups. Within this group work context, we believe in the value and importance of diversity to enrich and strengthen our work and its relevance in the broad social environment. We affirm that we aspire to provide equitable opportunities for participation for all members, and that all aspects of the organization will be characterized by respect for, inclusion, and representation of people across all aspects of social identity. Committed to social justice, AASWG gives particular attention to people systemically disadvantaged by the power differential inherent in oppressive social structures. (Adopted June 2004) As group workers we believe that our common ground unites us and our differences enrich us. The opportunities for collaborative learning on line, at local chapter events, and at our annual international symposia make this Association an invaluable resource to the global group work community.

2012 Membership renewal

Membership renewal:
The membership fees remain the same for 2012.  Upon renewing for 2012, your membership will be processed by our AASWG Operations Administrator, Nancy Sullivan.  Nancy will update your information in the AASWG membership records and send out your 2011 membership acknowledgement.
By renewing today you help us to save the time and cost of further outreach emails, letters, and phone calls to you during 2012.  In 2011 we renewed a majority of our members and enrolled many new members!  In 2012, AASWG needs your ongoing membership commitment.
The simplest and most efficient way is to join or renew on-line through our AASWG website:  www.aaswg.org.  Go to the website and login (to login just enter your user name which is your own name, e.g. SteveKraft), and your password (if you do not remember your password, you can request a new one after you enter your username).  If you choose not to renew on-line, you can mail the AASWG Membership Form with your payment (the mailing form is on the AASWG website.)
Significant accomplishments in 2011 have included:  a successful and energizing annual symposium held in the exciting USA city of Long Beach, CA;  the continued distribution of our revised Standards for Group Work Practice; our ongoing celebration of the Encyclopedia of Social Work with Groups, edited by Alex Gitterman and Robert Salmon; and our two new publications of symposium proceedings: the San Diego, CA, USA Proceedings, Orchestrating the Power of Groups:  Beginnings, Middles and Endings, edited by Dominique Moyse Steinberg ; and the  Boston, MA, USA proceedings, Creating Connections, edited by Lucia Berman-Rossi, Marcia Cohen, & Holly Fischer-Engel.

If you have any questions about the renewal process, email membership@aaswg.org, or phone toll-free 1-888-775-7045.
AASWG remains the only international professional organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of group work education and practice.  Please continue your participation in our AASWG mission by renewing your membership today!
Yours faithfully,
Your AASWG Membership Committee Co-Chairs:  Olga Molina, Alyssa Keel, and Julie Clifton
Your AASWG Executive Committee:  Jen Clements, Steve Kraft, Dana Leeman, Mark Macgowan, Linda McArdle, Olga Molina, Dominique Moyse Steinberg, Nancy Sullivan, Greg Tully, and Michael Wagner
And the entire AASWG Board!
